Bourgogne variations 2026
Series of paintings documenting my daily walk in the region of Bourgogne in France, from April to June 2026.
Time is a Mother
Indigo dye fixes itself to cellulose fibers through a process of oxidation. For seven days, once each day, I immersed the same white linen fabric in an indigo vat. After each bath, the fabric was hung in the open air. Under the effect of gravity, the dye liquid flowed along the fibers, gradually revealing a gradient of blue.
This is a trace of time, a manifestation of gravity, a residue of nature. The end of the suspended fabric rests in a terracotta tray. A ritual consisting of pouring cups of water into the tray is activated. The fabric becomes damp through capillary action, which intensifies the gradation of color.
Marrais de Bourges variations 2025
This series of painting project started from 2024 as a documentation of my daily walk in the Marrais de Bourges. I compose them as a musician compose variations on the same musical theme. The landscape change, people change, the painting format repeats.
Elements
In Taoist alchemical practice, the universe is composed of five essential elements: fire, water, earth, metal, and wood. These elements extend beyond the material, structuring systems of knowledge across astrology, medicine, divination, and philosophy. Gaston Bachelard’s elemental essays explore their intimate connection to the human psyche and imagination. Consciousness itself can be understood as a shifting constellation of images, texts, emotions, and sounds—intertwined in ways both visible and hidden. My BFA diploma exhibition at ENSA Bourges, set within a former convent, responds to this cosmology. Five walls of paintings, drawings, and textiles correspond to the five elements, forming an immersive environment imagined as the interior of an alchemical vessel. Within this space, transformation, formation, and decay occur simultaneously. Each wall acts as a “living painting,” shaped by a specific moment in time and space.
Walden lake
I work with the sun, the rain, the fallen leaves, the rotten tree branches, wild berries from spring, brilliant dandelions from summer, forest mushrooms from autumn, acorns from winter. I dream about the Walden lake, in April, May, June, October, January. From first rainfall to last freeze.
“Papa, why the sea is blue ?”
When we are children, we tend to ask many questions, often to our parents or to other parental figures around us. As adults, we seek to establish an individualised relationship with the world, a sense of our own identity. We try to free ourselves from parental authority. But are we truly aware of the other figures of authority present in our lives and within society? In the face of institutions of power, how can we construct a system of truth that is our own while remaining open to different values?
In this installation, composed of an embroidered text scroll and indigo-dyed linen fabric, I question our relationship to truth, language, and power.
shapes of
the night
Natural dye made from nettle, lichen, acorns and food waste, dye based ink, wood ashes from last winter, vinegar, bleach, cotton sewing thread, silk embroidery thread, linen cloth from Thailand, cotton sheet from thrift store in Burgundy. Tainted, contaminated, overlapped, intertwined, covered up, revealed, these are the shapes of the night.
